A professor once told me, "Remember, you are not painting a tree; you are painting a picture of a tree." so although most of my work looks realistic, I am not a "photo-realist". I am not trying to copy a photograph, I will leave that to 12.5 mega-pixels and Mr. Kinkos.
I do adhere to the basic concepts and principles that have guided artists through the ages such as good composition, fresh clean color, use of exciting texture, etc.
When I look at a subject my first thought is how will I make this into an exciting picture. The subject matter may be familiar, but what is important to me is using all my artistic skills to make it exciting as a painting.
As for consistency of style, I am not looking for all of my work to look the same as much as I am looking at how best to interpret the subject.
